WOYWW #195

So you're wondering what I've been up to this last week? Well, I guess you're only wondering that if you came over from "What's on your workdesk, Wednesday", hosted by the lovely and fabulous Julia at Stamping Ground and if you're completely clueless just follow the link and Julia will clue you in. :) So here is my desk:
I was working on a set of cards and got their backgrounds ready when I decided I didn't really like any of the colors of roses I already had dyed with it so I had to dye some more, there they are wet and here they are finished:
That's from this morning, after they had finished drying. Next is a Thank You card for my grandparents. The main part/image is from a pre-made card that I tore apart and modified. Majorly. I love the card now! And also I now wish I had taken a before picture so you could see how horrid it was before I got my hands on it. lol I put it a larger card blank so I could write plenty and added the ribbon strip to the bottom to tie into the red roses and gold. I don't think you can see in the pic but there are little gold dots on the red ribbon.
And this is one of the 100+ card bases I made awhile back. Added the embellishments and then right before I send it I will add a coordinating sentiment. I used several bases this week and now I would highly recommend taking the time to make yourself a pile of them to have on hand. It seems occasions just POP up! But now I'm ready for them! lol
This week I learned about naked buttons and the magic triangle, making the chalkboard effect style cards, and a few other things that aren't coming to mind now because I've spent more time viewing others cards than making my own this week! There are just some incredibly talented people out there, you know? I know you know because YOU are some of them! :)
Have a lovely week and please do share what you've learned this week, in the comment section, too. :)

  2. The card looks good! What a great way of recycling materials - loving the dyed roses too. Great idea to spend time making toppers - you never know when the need will arise! Have a great week! Kim #147

  3. Love the dyed roses. Where do you find the ribbon? I bought Tim Holtz but it shredded so bad I only use it for "tattered" items. I think I bought some from Stampin' Up! but it is bigger. Went to Hobby Lobby yesterday and they had some roses left from Valentines on sale so I bought them...they are about 1/2" on stems. We dodged the bullet again yesterday and ended up with just a little rain and no snow...YAY! Have a great week and stay warm! Vickie #40

    1. Glad you missed the snow if you hate it, of course my son looooves it so he was delighted! :) We probably got around 4 inches or something?
I got the roses at Hobby Lobby, in the sewing area, in the by-the-yard area. They start off white and 3 to a row with the columns being however many yards you purchase. Then I just separate them(cut them apart, in other words) by column or by row, whichever I think I'll end up wanting eventually. They cut apart really well and seem to hold up, at least so far through the dying process, which I am not gentle about so...make sure to take a coupon, though, because they aren't cheap! lol But I think in comparison(to other products like TH or Bo Bunny) they are the best deal. At least in my little spot of the woods. :)

    1. Thank you April! :) I did love it when I finished altering it, trust me if you had seen it before...wow, it was a hideous card...makes me wonder why I ever bought it in the first place! lol I must have had plans even then to modify it extensively! Where I put the white flower border they had a turquoise blueish ribbon originally...didn't go at all! lol

    1. Thanks for thinking so but really it's easier than you might think, but very very messy, as Laura mentions below! lol I did some more, okay a lot more, last night and my hands will probably be stained for two days or so...but really it's worth it. :) For the ones pictures I just put them in baggies with water and drops of distress re-inker and squished then laid them out to dry. I did some last night using the distress stains in bottles and those I just smoosh directly onto the rose trim and then let dry. It's fun to experiment with the colors and I'm sure you could do it too. :)

  8. Hey Girl,

Those dyed roses are devine, I so love the ribbon that is layed out like that, used some myself this week LOL Love the re-vamped card, looks great and I couldn't see the gold on the roses, but that is the net for you. LOL I am sure your grandparents are going to love it regardless. By the way you are one tallented person yourself never under estimate your abilities.

  10. Great roses! Really like your remake card and the square below is pretty too. I love dying ribbon and getting all inky/stained from doing so, then I scrub up with the TH Scrubbie! That thing is fab! Takes the ink, stain and paint right off even StazOn! And leaves the skin. :) I highly recommend it. Happy WOYWW! Nan #1
